The Perfect Pair

Posted September 18, 2015

Western culture has always had a big influence on what is fashionable and what is not. In fact, Hollywood, or the City of Music and Entertainment, still dictates what’s hot and what’s not in fashion across the globe. The shape and size of a woman’s breasts is no exception. Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry and Kate Upton are just a few examples of where younger women are getting their inspiration from. Today, a woman’s breasts takes center stage in fashion more than ever before, especially in the United States. Some people are even obsessed enough to try and set standards of what the ideal breast dimensions and positioning should be.

These days, people are so concerned with creating a gold standard for the perfect knockers that a study was published by American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in September 2014. During the research, 1500 people were shown images of breasts from various age groups and nationalities to determine which features were the most attractive. It’s hard to believe that people actually shelled out cash to fund this research. Humanity never ceases to amaze.

Perfect Ratios

It seems that just like baking a cake, a perfect pair of boobs relies heavily on having a good ratio of ingredients. In this case, having a good balance of volume on the upper and lower part of the breast was essential to the breast ratio. It is widely accepted that the ideal volume ratio of breasts are 45/55, which would make it slightly bottom heavy.

This golden ratio, however, is not strictly followed by all doctors that do breast augmentation. When placing breast implants for example, doctors have been known to use a 50/50 ratio. This is surprisingly less popular with men than with the female patients that actually get the procedure.

Perfect Contours

Contrary to popular belief, having a bit of a sunken chest is actually ideal to achieve the perfect breast contour. This is because the upper slope of the breast is a subtle, yet very important, feature and having a visibly rounded upper breast slope will simply look unnatural. Looking at it from the side, the perfect pair should ideally have a straight slope or a slight outward curve from the chest wall.

Perfect Nips

Another subtle, yet important feature, of the breasts is the nipples. Ideally, nipples should be pointing skyward instead of straight forward (but not too much). A successful boob job has an elevation of around 20 degrees pointing upwards.

Perfect Curves

Finally, and perhaps the most obvious of them all, is the contour of the breast base in relation to the nipple. A smooth and tight convex shape at the base of the breast is the ideal aesthetic most plastic surgeons shoot for.

True Perfection

It is widely known that having these features will significantly enhance the aesthetics of your breasts, regardless of the size. That is why supermodels like Kate Moss and Meagan Fox have such a striking body. Their overall proportions, including the breasts, are close to the standard of perfection.

But does any of this really matter at all? Is the old saying, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, still true? If you ask me, simply looking good doesn’t necessarily equate to happiness. I would even go so far as to say that the study conducted by the ASPS is not very comprehensive as it only did the study with 1500 people. That is nowhere near enough considering there are now over 7 billion people on the planet. The truth is, we can theorize and create standards on what the ideal body type or style should be. However, fashion is ever changing and who’s to say saggy or wrinkled boobs won’t ever be in style?
