The Most Popular Male Plastic Surgeries Of 2016 Are?

Posted March 10, 2017

In a look back at 2016, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has released information showing the most popular plastic surgery choices from last year. One interesting fact about the stats is that male procedures make up almost 10\\\% of the total. According to Dr. Douglas Steinbrech, a plastic surgeon based in Manhattan, men seek out plastic surgery to stay competitive in the job market and to look good. Dr. Steinbrech said:

“Men get surgery as a key tool to help them succeed. In a marketplace where looking fit, younger, and more masculine is imperative, the better you look, the better your chances of ascending the corporate ladder.”

When it comes to having plastic surgery, what are some of the favorite choices of male patients?

  • Gynecomastia, also known as male breast reduction, is growing in popularity. Research shows that 1 in 4 men suffer from some form of breast enlargement. Over 31,000 male breast reduction surgeries were performed in 2016 and many experts say this is due to men becoming more comfortable with the idea of plastic surgery.
  • Nose Surgery – In 2016, the large number of 16,200+ nose surgeries were performed on male patients. In general, men undergoing surgery on their noses were either in their early 20s or in their teens.
  • Liposuction – While lipo is often thought of as a female procedure, many men are also electing to remove stubborn areas of fat from the body. The stats from 2016 showed that over 45,000 men decided to have liposuction to reshape and recontour their appearance.
  • Botox – In order to stay relevant in the workplace, many men turn to Botox to refresh their appearance by eliminating wrinkles and fine lines. Over 450,000 Botox treatments were performed on men last year to help them maintain a competitive advantage at work.
  • Eyelid Surgery – The popularity of eyelid surgery can be tied to the reasons men have Botox. The lifting of eyelids gives males a younger and more refreshed appearance and over 28,000 men took advantage of that fact last year. Eyelid surgery also has functional advantages as the procedure can eliminate vision problems by lifting the eyelids.

It remains to be seen if these procedures top the list of male plastic surgeries at the end of the year. Until then, male patients will continue to undergo plastic surgery to gain self-confidence in their personal lives and maintain their professional advantage in the workplace.
