Pop Star Plastic Surgery Scandal

Posted August 12, 2015

It’s not unusual for male and female celebrities to get plastic surgery at some point in their careers.  The pressure to look perfect in public at all times weighs heavily on them.  While many celebrities have plastic surgery, not very many of them admit to having the work done on their bodies.  Most celebrities want the public to think their good looks are from good genetics or the result of diet and exercise.  There is one celebrity who will admit to having plastic surgery.  The name of that celebrity is Iggy Azalea.

Azalea, who hails from Australia, is best known as a rapper, songwriter and model.  She stood out from a crowded field of rappers when she first appeared on the scene because she was young, blonde and from Australia.  While not a striking beauty, she did gain attention for her blonde looks that are not normally seen on female rappers.  She’s been on the scene since 2011 and has been gaining even more attention lately for her changing looks.

One of the first noticeable changes to Azalea’s look was her enhanced breasts.  Her breasts in 2014 were much smaller than the appearance of the same body parts in 2015.  Azalea finally admitted to Vogue magazine in March of this year that she got breast implants at the end of last year.  The star said she had been thinking about getting bigger boobs her entire life and was glad that she finally had the procedure.  After she admitted to having that procedure, it wasn’t much longer before whisperings of more plastic surgery started to surround the star.

The Billboard Music Awards were held in May of this year.  Azalea’s appearance on the red carpet sparked news stories that the rapper had even more plastic surgery performed on her body.  In this case, news outlets and gossip websites were reporting more on what they perceived to be a nose job and chin implant as opposed to her newly pink-tipped blonde hair.  Azalea herself posted a photo of her look on Instagram with a caption saying how much she loved her new look.  The reactions to her new look from both the press and fans were immediate and not well received.

A majority of fans commented on how generic her nose appeared to be and that the chin implant looked fake and easy to spot.  Other comments about her nose said it looked shorter and the tip was now rotated upward.  One cosmetic surgeon said the chin implant looked pointy while also creating an asymmetric jawline.  Taking her new looks a step further, another plastic surgeon felt that Iggy had more work done than just her chin and nose.  This surgeon was seeing work done on her eyes, forehead, nose, wrinkles, lips and chin!

After speaking out about her breast implants in March, Azalea once again addressed the plastic surgery rumblings in the September issue of Seventeen magazine.  Azalea is on record in the issue as saying she won’t deny having plastic surgery because it is lame to deny it. She admits to having the nose job and describes having plastic surgery as being an emotional journey.  She welcomed the plastic surgery as a chance to change things she didn’t like about herself while also learning to accept other things about herself that she dislikes.

With the constant emphasis on social media as well as the looks of celebrities, Azalea has mentioned how much pressure there is in our current society to look beautiful.  It appears this pressure is part of the reason for the ever changing appearance of Iggy Azalea.  While it’s important for people of all walks of life to feel good about themselves and the way they look, the plastic surgery procedures of Iggy Azalea seem to be the complete opposite of the opening line to her hit “Fancy”.  The song opens with the line, “First thing’s first, I’m the realest (realest).”  With her continuing plastic surgery procedures, it appears that Iggy Azalea’s looks are no longer “the realest (realest).”
