Jennifer Grey became a household name in 1987 with the release of “Dirty Dancing”. Besides her acting skills, one of Grey’s features that caught the eye of America was her nose. Many people considered it her cutest feature due to the bump on it and the fact that her nose was on the large side and looked natural. Even though her nose was considered her defining feature, Grey decided to make a change in the appearance of her nose with rhinoplasty.
It is not often a change in appearance brings a drastic change in opportunities but that is exactly what happened to Jennifer Grey. The change in her most distinctive feature caused her acting opportunities to disappear almost overnight.
The change in her appearance was so prominent that it has been referred to as one of the worst nose jobs of all time. The nose is at the center of the face and is a prominent feature on everyone. Any changes to it can completely alter the appearance of a person and that is what happened with Grey. The bump on her nose that gave it so much character was gone and the loss of the bump also resulted in the loss of the feature that identified her in the eyes of America. The change in her appearance thanks to rhinoplasty was so great that Grey has stated she went into the surgery as a celebrity and came out of the operating room as an anonymous person. Grey has even said that it felt like she entered a witness protection program after having the operation.
Ever since Grey had rhinoplasty surgery, it has been whispered among Hollywood insiders that she had revision rhinoplasty to try and get back to her original look. It’s also been speculated that she had some fillers to give her lips a younger and sexier look. While the reasons for her rhinoplasty will never be fully known by anyone, Grey did make a common mistake shared by many celebrities. She attempted to fix something that didn’t have a medical reason for being fixed. She took a chance on plastic surgery and attempted to fix a feature that didn’t need to be altered in the eyes of the public.
The years since her rhinoplasty have seen Grey work as a guest star on TV shows and some made for TV movies. However, her career has never been the same since the surgery. Although she didn’t go this far, Grey seriously considered changing her name at one point in order to get a brand new start in her acting career. Thankfully, Grey kept her name and is still auditioning in Hollywood in the hopes of landing a role where she will be known for acting and not for her appearance.
