Celebrity Plastic Surgery Influence

Posted October 14, 2015

There are a variety of reasons why people decide to undergo plastic surgery. The reasons can range from vanity to repairing a botched earlier surgery to covering up some form of trauma to the skin. One of the biggest factors driving plastic surgery in America, as well as the world, is the influence of celebrities and the way they look. Wanting to live and look like a popular celebrity is nothing new. However, the influence they have on what is perceived as beautiful has been driving more people to undergo plastic surgery procedures.

One of the biggest influences on plastic surgery trends is Kim Kardashian. Whether you consider Kim Kardashian, or any of the Kardashians, a real celebrity or merely a reality show star, her influence on pop culture is undeniable. One of the features that Kim is famous for is her rather ample backside. Many women have tried to achieve the same “assets” as Kim by having a Brazilian Butt Lift in order to get a rounder and fuller butt. In case you’re never heard of the procedure, a Brazilian Butt Lift is when fat is harvested from one part of the body and then re-injected into the butt. Some of the areas where the fat is harvested from include the stomach and thighs.

Angelina Jolie is known for many things including being married to Brad Pitt, having a ton of kids and her charitable work with the United Nations. The feature that most people talk about when they mention her name is her lips.  The desire to have fuller and more defined lips like Angelina has sparked an increase in injectable fillers for the lips.

Gwyneth Paltrow is famous for her acting skills as well as her dedication to healthy living. Her smooth skin and age-defying look has caused many women to seek out Botox in order to have smoother skin free of wrinkles.

Another member of the Kardashian family that currently has a huge influence on what is “hot” is Kylie Jenner. Jenner has a large Instagram following that watches her every fashion move. Celebrity watchers have noticed the changing look of Jenner over the last few years. While she has admitted to having her lips plumped due to insecurity about her looks, she has not admitted to anything else. There is much whispering among celebrity watchers and gossip sites that Jenner has also had work done on her nose, butt and breasts.

There are times when the desire to emulate a celebrity sometimes goes a little too far. There are stories of people spending thousands of dollars to look like their favorite star. One woman spent in the neighborhood of $25,000 to look like Jennifer Lawrence from “The Hunger Games”. The money was spent on rhinoplasty, fat grafting, breast augmentation and liposuction. There is also the story of a singer in Los Angeles who admired Justin Bieber and wanted to resemble him more closely. He spent close to $100,000 in his effort to look just like Bieber.

Even some celebrities that have been against plastic surgery are still making a case for the procedures. Gisele Bundchen is a supermodel as well as the wife of NFL quarterback Tom Brady. She has spoken out for years against plastic surgery. Yet earlier this year it was reported that she went under the knife. She was spotted wearing a burqa (the garment worn by many Islamic women to cover their bodies in public) while entering a clinic in Paris. She was identified by the fact that the driver that dropped her off at the clinic was her longtime Paris chauffeur. Once she starting appearing again in the public eye, it was obvious that Gisele had some work done in the clinic. While most people don’t blame her for having some work done, they are amused at her attempts to hide her decision considering her earlier stance against plastic surgery.

As long as there are celebrities, there will be people that try and look like their favorite stars. In the past, the attempt to look like a celebrity was mainly limited to fashion choices and hairstyles. With the advancements in plastic surgery over the years, it’s easier than ever to try and look like celebrities in the face, backside, breasts, etc. Whether it’s an attempt to copy a certain celebrity look or trying to look exactly like a celebrity, the influence celebrities have on plastic surgery trends does not seem to be ending anytime soon.
