What Is The Fastest Growing Cosmetic Surgery In The World?

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) recently released a report that showed the results of a survey of cosmetic procedures performed in 106 countries. The results showed a growth in the number of procedures performed in one cosmetic surgery area: Labiaplasty.

Labiaplasty is a procedure performed to reduce the length of the labia minora. The main reasons for the surgery are:

• A woman experiencing discomfort due to twisting or chaffing while she is exercising
• The fact that she feels self-conscious about the length of her “labia lips.”

The results of the survey showed that the number of labiaplasty procedures performed grew by 45\\% in 2016. The growth occurred in the Top 10 countries performing labiaplasty procedures which include (in no particular order):

• Brazil
• India
• Turkey
• France
• Mexico
• Colombia
• Spain
• Russia
• Germany

The data was collected from a questionnaire sent to almost 35,000 plastic surgeons that are in the database of the ISAPS. The results were compiled and then tabulated and analyzed by an independent research firm based in Columbus, Ohio.

According to the ISAPS, there is a misconception among the public that labiaplasty is not a cosmetic surgery procedure as many seem to think that it is some kind of female genital mutilation. The organization emphasizes that labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure intended to improve the quality of life for a patient by minimizing pain or improving the aesthetic appearance of the genital area. Thanks to the significant increase in the number of labiaplasty procedures performed, the ISAPS expects to see the growth continue as more patients become aware that the procedure is a viable option for them.
